Feeling Mighty Old

I am feeling mighty old today. I realize I am so much older than the majority of people who blog and/or participate at message boards. I don't know what, if anything, I have in common with people in cyberspace, or what people in cyberspace have in common with me. I just get the feeling that I could disappear and no one would notice.

The younger generation seem to have a much easier time developing close ties through social networking over the Internet. I have, to a very limited extent. What saddens me is how I seem to be the one to initiate e-mails. Rarely does anyone I've "met" on-line send me an e-mail unless I've sent one to them.

Where, if any place, do I fit in?

Obviously I'm in one of my cranky moods today.

Is this a generational issue, or is it just my odd perception?

Ditto what Rosie said! You can have things in common with people younger than you. For instance, we both like Bon Jovi!!! Woohoo!!

Rosie and Tracy ~ You're both so kind. Let's just say yesterday was an off day for me. When my tree gets shaken, I never know what will fall from it.

If you go to MC and read my post in the Politics forum (Proposition 8 Questions), I think you'll understand where my head was at yesterday. My peace and serenity were challenged to the max. Thankfully, Steve (hubby) and Jim (our son) understand how "passionate" mom can get at times. At one point Jim told me, "Settle down mom." That's my peacemaker son.

On a positive note, we had a great time Saturday when we went to the Western Railway Museum. =)

I would look at the Prop 8 thread but I am avoiding political discussion with people I don't agree with. It's not good for my blood pressure plus I am sure no one really wants an anti-prop 8 person posting on there. Then I'd have to say why I am so against it and that will open up a hole other can of worms. So, I hope people were being nice to you no matter which way you argued.

I don't know how old you are, but there are times when I feel like a fossil on many blogs - and I really am not all that old. (Our youngest child is only 6, after all.)

On a lighter note, one of my favorite age-related quotes:

Life may make me old, but nothing can make me mature!

Tracy ~ I understand your wanting to avoid political discussions. We're coming down to the wire and that can make people quite emotional. That happened to me on Sunday.

No matter what the outcome of the presidential election or Prop 8 may be, all I want is for people to be respectful.

papa-d ~ Thanks for the quote. Some days I feel mighty old, and other days ... well, my behavior is totally juvenile. :o)
